I don’t think any of us planned on owning these many clothes. It just happened.
At first, you buy something because you genuinely need it. Then somehow every birthday, brunch, vacation, sale and bad day becomes a reason to add one more thing to the cart.
And yet, haven’t we all stood in front of a wardrobe packed with clothes, thinking “I have nothing to wear! ”
That feeling says a lot. Maybe the issue is not our wardrobe. It is how quickly we move on from what we already own.

What does overconsumption actually look like?
Overconsumption rarely looks dramatic. Most of us are not buying things we will never wear. It's usually much more subtle than that.
-
Buying another white t-shirt because this one has a slightly different neckline.
-
Ordering multiple sizes just to try them on, then forgetting to return the extra ones.
-
Saving outfits for the “special day” that never comes.
-
Shopping because you are bored. Sure, it may bring temporary thrill, but you will be browsing again in no time.
The hardest part is that this has become so normal that we rarely stop to question it.

How to shop more mindfully
Mindful shopping is not about buying lesser. It is about making sure the things you bring home actually belong in your wardrobe.
Start with a budget: but also ask yourself why you are buying it. Is it something you will genuinely wear, or did it just look good on someone else’s reel?

Give it some time: if you are unsure, leave it in your cart for 48 hours. If you are still thinking about it, you can consider getting it, provided it works with existing pieces in your wardrobe.
Choose quality over quantity: Invest in a few timeless, well-made pieces that make you look sharp and fit your everyday lifestyle.

Shop your own wardrobe first: Every few months, look back at what you purchased recently. Which pieces became favourites? Which ones still have the tags on? That simple exercise can tell you a lot about your shopping habits.

Think beyond the purchase: Every item has an environmental footprint. Choosing clothes you will wear again and again is one of the easiest ways to reduce waste.
